Service Description

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps people with low income to buy food and to better meet their nutritional needs.

SNAP, formerly known in Minnesota as Food Support and sometimes called Food Stamps, is not intended to meet all of your food budget needs. Benefits can be spent like cash in most food stores. They can be used to buy food or plants and seeds to grow food to eat.

Building Accessibility
  • Accessible main entrance (zero step approach)
  • Accessible public restroom
  • Designated disability parking

If you need help to pay for food, you can apply even if you think you may not qualify.

Eligibility is based on household income minus some things you pay for (like utilities, housing and child care and more).
* People who are 60 or older or disabled have additional deductions (such as medical costs) and also income is figured differently.
* If everyone in your household gets Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA) and/or General Assistance (GA), then you are under the income limit.
* Households exiting the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) may still qualify for SNAP.

Other rules:
* You cannot qualify for SNAP if you live in an institution.
* Some people must register for work - you can get help to find work.
* You cannot get both SNAP and Tribal Food Distribution in the same month.
