AARP sponsors 55 Alive classes with Community Education.
The first time one takes the class this is an 8-hour (2 day) program for mature drivers. The program consists of lectures, slides, class discussion, but no driving or road testing.
Classes are held at various sites and times during the year. An online driver safety course is also offered.
Upon completion, participants receive a certificate which entitles them to a discount on their car insurance (at least 10%). The discount is good for three years, at which time the individual may attend a four hour refresher course for the next three-year period.
