Emergency General Assistance (EGA) may help to resolve a one-time crisis that immediately threatens a basic health or safety need (such as food, shelter or utilities). It is available to low income Minnesota residents through counties. To qualify, you must have no other resources available to meet this need. The need must be resolved by one-time help, and it cannot be an ongoing need.Generally, the money is paid directly to resolve the bill or as a voucher. Funds are administered by counties, and may run out.
To be eligible for EGA a person must: * Have an emergency that threatens their health and safety (determined by the county) * Have income of less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline for the previous year * Receive EGA only once in any 12-month periodOther programs affect eligibility: * You do not have to be eligible for General Assistance (GA) in order to qualify for EGA * Families on Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) do not qualify for EGA, but may qualify for different emergency funds * People receiving other types of income benefits may apply * Disqualifying from GA or MFIP must not have caused the crisisFunds may run out.
