Service Description

The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) helps pay home heating costs and furnace repairs for income-qualified households.

Services may include:
* Payment of energy bills
* Help with utility disconnections or necessary fuel deliveries.
* Education on efficient and safe use of home heating energy.
* Advocacy with energy suppliers and human service providers on behalf of consumers.
* Repair or replacement of homeowners' malfunctioning heating systems.

- Does not pay all heating costs

If funds are available program may be able to assist with disconnects or a partial fill of fuel oil or propane -- one time only assistance during the fuel season. Funds may be available to assist with heating related emergencies and furnace repairs or in hazardous situations replacements for homeowners only. All eligible households are referred to Prairie Five's Weatherization Program if the house has not been weatherized.

Applicants may apply if they pay heat costs in the monthly rent and if the government does pay part of their rent. Child support payments must be added to income of the household receiving them. If self-employment is a loss it is counted as $0 income; other income is considered.

Eligibility

Households who are at or below 50 percent of the state median income are eligible. Funds are available for renters or homeowners.
