Minnesota Board on Aging at the State Fair

Monday, June 22, 2015

The Minnesota's Board on Aging (MBA) and its flagship service - the Senior LinkAge Line®: a One Stop Shop for Minnesota Seniors - will again be part of the Great Minnesota Get Together, the Minnesota State Fair. The MBA will host an informational booth in the southeast corner of the State Fair Education Building, located on Cosgrove Street north of Dan Patch Avenue. The booth provides an unprecedented opportunity to connect with older adults, caregivers, and people planning for their future as an older adult.

The theme for this year's MBA booth is Medicare's 50th Anniversary. Medicare was officially signed into law on July 30, 1965 and today provides coverage to more than 54 million people 65 and over and people who are disabled nationwide. In Minnesota, Medicare serves 819, 803 people.

In addition to providing information on Medicare, the MBA booth will also include information on a variety of other topics of interest to seniors, their families, friends and caregivers, such as aging in place, long-term care planning and preventing senior fraud and abuse. Staff from Minnesota's Area Agencies on Aging, as well as staff from the MBA, the Minnesota Department of Human Services and members of the Minnesota Board on Aging will be on hand to answer questions and connect seniors to the resources and help they need. Own Your Future, the state's project that focuses on encouraging individuals over 40 to begin planning for retirement and their care as they age will be on hand as well.

The Minnesota State Fair takes place from Thursday, August 27 through Labor Day, which falls on September 7 this year. The State Fair Education Building is open from 9:00am-9:00pm.
