March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Thursday, March 2, 2017

During the month of March, take the time to celebrate the many contributions people with developmental disabilities (DD) make to our society throughout the year.

The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), and National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) have joined together launch a DD Awareness Month social media campaign. The campaign highlights the many ways people with and without developmental disabilities come together to form strong and diverse communities.

The campaign's purpose is to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all facets of community life, as well as awareness to the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live.

To be part of the campaign:

  • Follow #SideBySideDD17 all month long on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Upload the orange, blue or black and white Side-by-Side graphic as your Facebook cover image.
  • Share stories from the social media calendar, available as a PDF or Word file.
  • Use #SideBySideDD16 to share pictures, videos, and stories on social media that reflect people with and without developmental disabilities living, learning, and earning side-by-side in the community.
