Minnesota Hosts 2015 National Senior Games
Monday, June 22, 2015
The 2015 National Senior Games will be held in the Twin Cities from July 3 - 16. The Senior Games is a biennial competition for men and women ages 50 and over, and is the largest multi-sport event in the world for older adults. This year's games will attract nearly 10,000 qualified athletes from across the nation and around the world to compete in 19 different medal sports competitions.
To qualify, participants were required to participate in one of 51 National Senior Games Association (NSGA) sanctioned member state games held during 2014. In total, more than 30,000 athletes qualified in these games, though not all chose to compete in this year's national Senior Games. Athletes will compete in more than 800 events, over 13 days at 26 sport venues throughout the Twin Cities. There are age divisions in five year increments for both individual and team sports.
The Twin Cities metro region has been ranked #2 in the 2015 American Fitness Index of the American College of Sports Medicine. The National Senior Games will bring some of the greatest examples of fit seniors to one of the fittest communities in America. The Senior Games offers proof that everyone can improve the quality of their lives at any age by staying active.
