Description
A group of people that meet on a regular basis to share their experiences and provide mutual support.
Additional Information
A longstanding support group with a relaxed environment where brain injury individuals meet each other, share food and drink, and to build friendships and a social community.
Advice, support and comfort for people and their families, all are welcome.
The age range of individuals who attend this group is from 25 - 65.
Provides a peer-led support group and social club is designed for high-function acquired brain injuries and traumatic brain injuries.
Family members, caregivers, staff and professionals are welcome to join.
Starting each meeting is the "roundtable member check-in" providing each individual attending, if they so choose, the time to share their last month's trials and tribulations, their ups and downs.
There are occasional specific subjects of discussion or planned speakers, an occasional music jam session, and social chatter over beverages and snacks to share that are brought by the facilitator and members.
On occasion there are planned activities including: art projects, viewing movies often related to brain injury, political action updates around disability policy change or other topical activities of interest.
Group members may also choose to become politically active and attend the state capital on Tuesdays during the congressional session in coordination with the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance and Minnesota Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities.

Any of a variety of conditions that occur following birth including traumatic damage in the birth process or as the result of an accident (the most common of which are vehicular accidents, falls, acts of violence and sports injuries), anoxia or hypoxic episodes and allergic conditions, toxic substances and other acute medical/clinical incidents that are characterized by significant destruction of brain tissue and resultant loss of brain function. Examples of brain injuries include hematomas, blood clots, contusions or bruising of brain tissue, cerebral edema (swelling inside the skull), concussions and strokes.
