Elder Network - Winona County
51 W 4th St, Winona, MN, 55987-4068
Distance: 954 Miles
Peer support volunteers are trained to serve other older adults who are facing difficulties such as:
* Family estrangement
* Recent diagnosis of a medical condition (cancer, dementia, macular degeneration)
Seniors served may be experiencing feelings of sadness, guilt, hopelessness, emptiness, or marked changes in sleep, appetite, and energy.
The volunteers are individuals who genuinely listen to and respect others, creating relationships built on mutual trust and acceptance, who are bridges to the community, identifying resources, especially those to decrease feelings of social isolation and loneliness. Trained volunteers make home visits to other older adults to provide a listening ear, support and encouragement for positive change.
