The Senior Citizen Education Program (SCEP) allows older adults in Minnesota to take classes for little to no cost at state-sponsored colleges and universities. This program was established by the State of Minnesota to give older adults the opportunity to continue learning through credit and non-credit higher education courses.

    • Older adults

To be eligible:
* Must be a Minnesota resident
* Must be 62 or older before the start of the term for which you are registering
* If on a railroad retirement annuity, must be 60
* Course must have space available after all tuition-paying students have been accommodated

Application Instructions

Go to the college or university's website to register for classes. You will need to submit by mail or fax, a copy of documentation that proves your Minnesota residency and age (copy of your driver's license or state-issue ID).

Older adults may audit classes for free. Tuition for credit classes is free or greatly reduced, such as $10-20 per credit hour. Program participants may need to pay administration, materials, lab, technology, service, parking, or application fees related to the course or required by the school. Fees vary somewhat by institution - see their website for details.
