Blind or visually impaired support services involve direct support to people who are blind, deaf-blind, or those with low vision. Program focuses on teaching Independent Living Skills (ILS) to people with a visual impairment.

Additional Information

The Blind Rehabilitation Services:
* Provides training and support to blind and low vision Veterans and active duty service members to help them live independently
* Helps family and caregivers to understand how to help someone with low or no vision
* Assists in enhancing home environments and reducing caregiver burden

The VISOR Program is a part of the Blind Rehabilitation Services. This is a short-term training program for veterans with a visual impairment. This program and the adaptive equipment provided are free to all eligible veterans.

The HOPTEL Program is a 5 day program that meets approximately one week per month. During the day, individual or small group classes may include cooking, using a reading machine, cane travel, labeling methods, home safety, and using public transportation. This service is also available as several sessions as an outpatient.
