They inspect goods for auction and may estimate their value, group items together in lots and plan the selling order, display goods for purchasers to view before the auction, look for bidding signals, call for bids, sell goods to the highest bidder (subject to a reserve price) and keep a record of sales. Auctioneers may also arrange for insurance on goods; select the place and date for the auction; arrange advertising, catalogs and financing; and provide information to prospective buyers about the goods to be sold.
