Project Lifesaver uses a locator system to rapidly find vulnerable people who have a tendency to wander off and get lost.
The personal locating device is about the size of a wristwatch and is worn on the wrist or ankle. The waterproof device is worn 24 hours every day and transmits a silent radio pulse. If the person wanders and can't be located, the caregivers contact the emergency responders. The responders can find the person more quickly using radio receivers.
People in danger from unsafe wandering with Alzheimer's, autism, Down syndrome, dementia or other cognitive conditions. Applicants are screened for appropriateness for the program.
