Description

This agency manages and operates the local public affordable housing program to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to high-rise apartments for seniors.

Programs include:
* Low income public housing - manages 110 housing units
* Transitional Rental Assistance Program - serves underserved populations such as single family heads of household with at least one minor child, and households of color whose income is below 30% of median income, with priority given to families who are homeless and near homeless
* Housing Opportunity Program - income based housing for low income people with a disability. All clients referred by Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center.


Eligibility

Public housing is limited to low-income families and individuals. Your eligibility is based on: 1) annual gross income; 2) whether you qualify as elderly, a person with a disability, or as a family; and 3) U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status. If you are eligible, the Housing Authority will check your references to make sure you and your family will be good tenants.


Applicants must meet income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Application Instructions

Contact the Housing Authority where you want to live to apply for public housing. Waiting lists for public housing can often be long or closed.
