Blind or visually impaired support services involve direct support to people who are blind, deaf-blind, or those with low vision. Program focuses on teaching Independent Living Skills (ILS) to people with a visual impairment.

Additional Information

Vision Loss Resources (VLR) partners with DeafBlind Services Minnesota (DBSM) to provide assistance to deafblind individuals of all ages and all abilities to achieve their highest level of independence and self-sufficiency. Because each deafblind individual has unique needs, services are provided on a one-to-one basis and customized to that person's needs. DBSM provides services statewide to adults, through the Adult Community Services (ACS) program. They provide Support Service Providers (SSP), and adjustment to blindness and deaf-blindness training.

Offers a full adjustment to blindness rehabilitation training center focusing on:
* Orientation and Mobility
* Technology
* Keyboarding
* Writing
* Adaptive Food Preparation
* Braille
* Techniques of Daily Living
* Living with Blindness Discussion Group
* Woodworking

They also provide fully furnished apartments near their training center, for those traveling from outside of Minnesota.

DeafBlind Services Minnesota (DBSM) is funded by The Minnesota Department of Human Services, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division, Hennepin County, Medicaid Home and Community-Based waivers, and Minnesota State Services for the Blind (Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Security).
Some services are private pay (such as the fitness center).
