Winona County Veterans Van provides transportation for veterans medical appointments:
* On even-numbered days, Monday - Friday, to the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and the Rochester Veterans Affairs (VA) clinic
* On odd-numbered days, Monday - Friday, to the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin and the Veterans Affairs (VA) River Valley Outpatient Clinic and Integrated Health Center in La Crosse
Van trips are scheduled in advance. If there are no requests from Veterans for transportation, there is no transportation scheduled for that date.
Veterans who wish to be transported to one of the above listed medical centers need to schedule their appointment on that even or odd-numbered day that matches the facility in which the van is scheduled.
Contact the Winona County Veterans Service office at (507) 457-6455 to schedule, confirm, change, or cancel an appointment.
They request a nominal contribution for travel on the van if you are receiving either travel pay based upon your service-connected disability or receiving veteran pension benefits.
If you are not receiving travel pay, they ask for an in-kind contribution, depending on location ranges $20.00 - $50.00

Programs that provide transportation for medical appointments, trips from and between hospitals, to nursing homes or other special-care centers or for other non-emergency medical needs for individuals who, because of financial problems or their physical condition, are unable to use other means of local transportation. NEMT service providers are able to transport riders who require a wheelchair lift equipped vehicle with appropriate protective restraints or a van that is designed for gurney/stretcher transportation, or has other types of features to meet their safety needs.
Individuals who are former members of one of the branches of the armed forces and who, by length and type of services, honorable discharge or release or degree of disability, qualify for the benefits and privileges that are provided by law for ex-servicemen and women.
